A long time Yukon resident, I have resided in Whitehorse since 1971. I attended school, raised my family and am extremely fortunate to have my parents and sisters with their families living in the Yukon. Families are very important to me; I care about the Yukon, its communities and its people.
I have worked for YTG since 1979, starting with the Department of Finance and have been working in the Court Registry in Whitehorse since 1986. I am a union activist, trying to make the workplace a better place. My involvement in the union started as a Shop Steward many years ago and has expanded over the years in many areas.
Union education is excellent and widely promoted by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). After attending many union courses, I trained and became an Alliance Facilitator (AF). I am Chair of the Yukon AF Committee, the AF representative on PSAC North and a member of the PSAC North’s Education Committee. I am the Secretary / Treasurer of Local Y010, and a member of the PSAC Whitehorse Women’s Committee and PSAC Yukon Health & Safety Committee. I have also sat on the executive of the Area Council.
I am proud to be a member of this union and elected as a Director of YEU. Our union in the Yukon is very strong and has won many battles because of the dedication and solidarity of its members and the community. The union is very involved in the community, donating to worthy causes and is involved in many community events.
I have travelled and made many great friends both locally and across Canada and have learned much from them. Networking is paramount; solidarity is truly a strong force. There are many ways to become involved in the union and I encourage more members to become involved. It’s an exciting and rewarding experience!
