NAIM
NAIM network mobilizing
The creation of the National Aboriginal, Inuit and Métis Network (NAIM) at the 2003 PSAC Convention was a major step forward in PSAC’s long history of solidarity with its First Nation members.
NAIM is made up of Aboriginal, Inuit and Métis members of PSAC, who work together to increase their involvement at all levels of the Union. They strive to empower each other, and advance their rights within and beyond PSAC. The organization has a central “National Circle” of members who meet to discuss and identify issues the Union needs to address.
Liz Bosely, who works as an instructor in Developmental Studies at Yukon College, is one of two North Regional Representatives for NAIM who provide a link between northern Network members and the National Circle. Liz’s goal is to establish a NAIM working group in the Yukon that can focus on local issues as well as national matters that affect network members. The group will provide a strong, unified voice within PSAC and educate its members about YEU. She hopes to increase Network membership by encouraging Yukon First Nation people to selfidentify and register. There are 11 self-governing First Nations in the Yukon. Liz believes that collective agreements would provide a balance in the power of First Nations as employers and the rights of their employees as workers.
Aboriginal, Inuit and Métis union members can download Membership registration forms in PDF format. Other YEU members are encouraged to download and submit the Allies of NAIM registration form.
