The Yukon Employees' Union (YEU) is the largest labour union in the territory. It is the bargaining agent for employees of the Yukon government (with the exception of those employed under terms of the Education Act), and serves workers at Yukon College, the Nakwaye Ku Child Care Society, the Child Development Centre, the Yukon Women’s Transition Home, the City of Whitehorse, Whitehorse Transit, Whitehorse General Hospital, the Yukon Arts Centre, the Klondike Visitors Association, and Yukon Energy Corporation.

The Northern Safety Network and Many Rivers Counselling & Support Services are in the process of certifying for Local status, bringing our membership to approximately 4000 workers.

Members of YEU's diverse employment groups work throughout the Yukon ? from the most northerly locations (Herschel Island) near the border of the Northwest Territories, to Beaver Creek ? located at a point 350 miles west of Los Angeles.

The Yukon Employees' Union is one of the youngest members of the PSAC National Board of Directors. Our founding convention took place in June 1990. However, we have been members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) since 1966. During the first 24 years of our existence, YEU was recognized as a unique "Local" entity within the Alliance structure.

YEU elected its first full-time President in 1987. Terms negotiated in the Collective Agreement with Yukon Territorial Government provides for a 75 per cent paid leave of absence for the Union's president. At the 2008 Triennial Convention, members voted unanimously to convert the office of 1st Vice-President to a full-time paid position. All other executive members are volunteers elected from Locals across the territory.

The Component Executive (YEU's Board of Directors) consists of the full-time President and 1st Vice-President, one 2nd Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and ten Directors. This Executive is the governing body of the Component between conventions. It meets monthly to discuss and implement programs and policies in support of our membership. The YEU's Triennial Convention in October 2008, elected our current Executive, who will serve the members till the fall of 2011.

In the late 1980’s the YEU President, the PSAC Regional Representative and one administrative staff member provided Local level representation to a single 900 member bargaining unit. Today, the Component employs the President, 1st Vice-President, an Executive Director and 7 staff members. They serve more than 4000 workers covered by 15 collective agreements, with support from 3 full time PSAC Regional employees.

From its headquarters in Whitehorse, the Yukon Employees' Union represents more than 4,000 workers, making it the largest labour union in the territory.
